New Facility Makes Camp .. Bearable

Well, there is internet access in Linden, Tennessee (duh, you're reading this). However, cellphone service is another story (the place where we are staying is called LindenValley .. the key word being valley).

If you drive to the highest point of the camp (this place used to be Camp Linden), hold a piece of aluminum foil in one hand, and lift one foot off the ground, you might .. again, might .. get a signal.

It's probably because the Tennessee Baptist Convention (owners/operators of the camp) didn't want anyone to misunderstand the statement, "I have three bars" (in Judges 13:14 we are told to 'drink not wine, nor strong drink').

Several years ago they built a very nice "hotel-like" building here to make the camp a little more appealing to all age groups (it was a 'hard sell' getting adults to stay in a cabin in the woods .. ♪♫ little man by the window stood .. ♪♫ saw a rabbit hopping by .. ♪♫ frightened as can be ..) and it is very nice.

You have all the amenities of home in a rustic setting (groups often come here to float the Buffalo River .. early this morning, I'm fairly sure I saw a buffalo floating in the river).

We are the only ones (six of us) in the place, and it sort of seems like the perfect setting (a deserted camp) for one of those teenage slasher films .. Friday the 13th: Jason's Revenge.

Make that .. Monday the 10th: Russ' Revenge (I think it was the egg rolls he had for supper).

"Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people."
- Exodus 30:38

When I was a camp counselor, I LOVED Camp Linden the best for some reason. It definitely is "out there". As long as the "little man" doesn't have a knife, you're in good shape.
