Day two (Saturday) of our Chattanooga trip was very nice. We met Drew and his girlfriend Katie at 10:30 in the morning (we were there at 10:30 .. they were fashionably late) at Panera Bread®. When we arrived, there were only a handful of people in the place and no one in line, so we sat down to wait. That all changed within minutes when a girls soccer team (or teams .. they kept coming through the door like clowns stepping out of a car at the circus) hurried in and formed an extremely long line. It all worked out, however. We finally realized what was happening and worked our way in .. behind the team. By the time Drew and Katie got there, we were at the register .. just in time to buy their breakfast (I think they were watching from around the corner and knew exactly when to strike).
After breakfast, Cheryl and I headed to the Hamilton Place Mall (when you're 50 or older, there has to be at least one trip to the mall .. it's an unwritten law or in the AARP handbook, I'm not sure which) to kill some time before going to see a movie, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (4:15 PM at the Regal Theater).
We enjoyed the movie (mostly because it was only $5 for the two of us) and left just as soon as it ended to go eat.
Drew works in the kitchen at an upscale downtown restaurant called Table 2 and he had a reservation for us at 7:00 PM. We arrived and they made us feel like royalty (the good kind .. not the kind where there's a beheading).
Chef Drew prepared three delicious appetizers which included Heirloom Salad (mixed tomatoes - including fried, pickled vidalia onions, 20 year old balsamic, etc.), Tuna TarTar (with guacamole, cucumbers, cayenne, etc.) and Spanakopita (a Greek spinach pie). Yum.
For our main course, I had sea bass and Cheryl had the scallops. Double yum.
Drew sent out a cobbler for two (we should have had a third person to help eat this) made with fresh peaches, apples and blueberries to finish off the meal. Triple yum.
The pièce de résistance was getting the check with a note saying 'Happy Anniversary from your son. No charge" (that's even better than a $5 movie!!).
We returned to the hotel after a full (when I say full, I mean full) day and did what married couples do ..
She read and I got on the computer.
