(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

The great thing about getting a day off is .. you get a day off (I believe Confucius or Socrates said that). The bad part is .. beginning the week "in the hole". You are behind before you even get started. Tuesday seems like Monday. Wednesday night rehearsal arrives a day earlier and you go in unprepared, looking like an incompetent idiot (even more than usual). By Thursday, everything must be tied up in a nice little bow. You can come in on Friday, but that would defeat having a day off and, possibly, upset some kind of time and space continuum. Believe me, it's not worth the risk.

We are never satisfied.

We live for those long weekends and holidays, then we gripe because there is so much to do on Tuesday morning.

People complain about the heat all summer and can't wait for cool weather. When winter comes, we are all longing for things to warm up.

Many are praying for rain here in West Tennessee. Those on the Gulf Coast are praying the rain will stop.

We are never satisfied.

I'm glad I'm not God (never slumbering nor sleeping has no appeal to me). People pray for things all the time that God, in His infinite wisdom, knows will not bring them satisfaction. If He answers those prayers the way they deem fitting, His perfect will is not accomplished and their lives might even be worse. If He says "no", many lose "heart" and question why God didn't hear them.

That's just too much pressure.

"Father Knows Best" was a TV series (based on a popular radio program) that ran from 1954-60. It was a sitcom about a very wise husband and father, Jim Anderson, who seemed to always have the right answers. No matter how difficult the problem, he knew how to handle it.

In the 50s and 60s, all of America trusted Jim Anderson (played by Robert Young) to do the right thing.

God is far wiser than Robert Young (by the late 70s, he was selling Sanka in commercials .. how the mighty have fallen).

He's our Father and He does know best.

Amen! Yes, Meghan and Steven are now 15 (driving!!!) and 12. Jamie is 10. Meghan asked me the other day where "Aunt" Kevin was. Seems like it wasn't too long ago that she was learning to walk in your office and Steven was going to choir practice with me. AH, memories.
